We've been making this Roycroft- style box series for years - people like it so much! These hand-hammered copper boxes were inspired by the "Roycrofters", a collective of turn-of-the-20th century craftsmen active in upstate Aurora, New York. The Velikoretskikh family immigrated from Ukraine and started Great River Farm, just outside of Portland, Oregon. Grueby Faience Company was founded in 1894 by William Grueby who was inspired by French pottery matte glazes, particularly the cucumber green that became the company's hallmark, and the refined simplicity of Japanese ceramics. In its heyday Grueby was sold through Tiffany Studios in New York City and Gustav Stickley incorporated Grueby tiles in his furniture. We made this hand hammered copper tray in 2014 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Cobre Copper. It was inspired by an Arts & Crafts tray we saw several years before and artist Anselmo Miranda did a beautiful rendition. We first saw this bowl in the dining room at the famous Greene and Green Gamble Home Museum in Pasadena, California in the mid-1990's. We liked it so much we decided to make it in copper and it's been a hit ever since. This bowl is water-tight and perfect for floating your favorite flowers - a cheerful accent for your home. I use mine for fresh fruit, pretty and functional!

I love this vase and we have just ONE left! Working with copper has been a tradition in Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacan since pre-Hispanic times. A few of the workshops in Santa Clara have modernized but Antonio Ziranda is keeping the old tradition alive, as do all the craftsmen that I work with. Michoacan is an agricultural state filled with pine forests, croplands, and fruit orchards. This indigenous design was inspired by the segments you see in oranges and grapefruits, many of which are grown in the nearby Tierra Caliente (hot land), not far from Antonio's village.

The long, dark nights this time of year are a good time to burrow with your favorite books and our Jarvie-style bookends! Scotsman Robert Jarvie (1865-1941) was an active artist and designer during the early 20th century Arts and Crafts movement. He created this design between 1905-1912 in his Chicago Illinois workshop. Anselmo has beautifully articulated the leaf in repousse' and contrasted the leaf's smooth surface with a heavily textured background. Don't delay, we have just 5 sets!
