Stickley was recognized as an originator of American Craftsman style design. Famous for his quarter-sawn oak furniture, Stickley was also known for his metalwork designs. We made this hand hammered copper tray in 2014 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Cobre Copper. It was inspired by an Arts & Crafts tray we saw several years before and artist Anselmo Miranda did a beautiful rendition. Be sure to click the additional image detail to see the intricate blending of the step-beveled rim leading to the repousse flower border and hand cut handles - truly an heirloom piece.

We first saw this bowl in the dining room at the famous Greene and Green Gamble Home Museum in Pasadena, California in the mid-1990's. We liked it so much we decided to make it in copper and it's been a hit ever since. This bowl is water-tight and perfect for floating your favorite flowers - a cheerful accent for your home. I use mine for fresh fruit, pretty and functional!

When I visited Santa Clara del Cobre October 2019 I saw this vase in Antonio Ziranda's workshop. My visit was timed with one of the most important festivals in Mexico, El Dia de los Muertos. Part of the festivities includes a much-anticipated contest where artisans submit their best work to be judged with hopes of winning prizes. You will see the best ceramics, wood carving, weaving, embroidery, masks, and of course, copper! Antonio Ziranda participates every year and I visited his workshop just before he submitted his pieces to be juried. When I saw this vase, I had to have it. Apparently, the judges felt the same way as it received a blue ribbon! Now available in TWO sizes:

Cobre's expanded offering of wall art features beautifully reproduced images of Gustave Baumann woodcuts. Gustave Baumann (1881-1971) created color woodcut prints of American rural landscapes. Baumann was active in the era before photo-reproduction replaced wood engraving. He was active in the Chicago and Indiana countryside until he took a trip to Taos, NM.....which then became home. He lived in Santa Fe area for more than 50 years and carved into wood southwestern landscapes and spring and summer gardens and orchards. His prints are awash in brilliant, hand-ground pigments. About our frames: Dard Hunter Studios makes our Oak Park frames that are beautifully hand-finished in quarter sawn white oak . Prints are matted and backed with archival materials. Working with copper has been a tradition in Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacan since pre-Hispanic times. A few of the workshops in Santa Clara have modernized but Antonio Ziranda is keeping the old tradition alive, as do all the craftsmen that I work with. Michoacan is an agricultural state filled with pine forests, croplands, and fruit orchards. This indigenous design was inspired by the segments you see in oranges and grapefruits, many of which are grown in the nearby Tierra Caliente (hot land), not far from Antonio's village.

Antonio created this striking vase for Cobre's 30th anniversary. The fish motif is inspired by "Pescado Blanco" (white fish), a Michoacan delicacy. Lake Patzcuaro is near Antonio's village and home to Pescado Blanco. The flora and fauna of the lake have been a source of inspiration for centuries to potters, weavers, woodcarvers and of course, coppersmiths! Antonio's rendition is substantial and bold - copperwork at its best. Just ONE left!

The creator of this design was an amazing woman of her time, Marie Zimmerman (1879-1972). She was active in a “man’s world” creating metal sculptures and objects with a distinctive organic style. She came from a wealthy family, didn’t need to work and had no desire to marry – she was a true maverick. Antonio Ziranda created a beautiful interpretation of Zimmerman’s original vase. We have just ONE!
