When I visited Santa Clara del Cobre October 2019 I saw this vase in Antonio Ziranda’s workshop. My visit was timed with one of the most important festivals in Mexico, El Dia de los Muertos. Part of the festivities includes a much-anticipated contest where artisans submit their best work to be judged with hopes of winning prizes. You will see the best ceramics, wood carving, weaving, embroidery, masks, and of course, copper! Antonio Ziranda participates every year and I visited his workshop just before he submitted his pieces to be juried. When I saw this vase, I had to have it. Apparently, the judges felt the same way as it received a blue ribbon!
