Grueby Faience Company was founded in 1894 by William Grueby who was inspired by French pottery matte glazes, particularly the cucumber green that became the company's hallmark, and the refined simplicity of Japanese ceramics. In its heyday Grueby was sold through Tiffany Studios in New York City and Gustav Stickley incorporated Grueby tiles in his furniture. This beauty measures 12" high and has a subtle, abstracted leaf and pod design in repousse.

Cobre's expanded offering of wall art features beautifully reproduced images of Gustave Baumann woodcuts. Gustave Baumann (1881-1971) created color woodcut prints of American rural landscapes. Baumann was active in the era before photo-reproduction replaced wood engraving. He was active in the Chicago and Indiana countryside until he took a trip to Taos, NM.....which then became home. He lived in Santa Fe area for more than 50 years and carved into wood southwestern landscapes and spring and summer gardens and orchards. His prints are awash in brilliant, hand-ground pigments. About our frames: Dard Hunter Studios makes our Oak Park frames that are beautifully hand-finished in quarter sawn white oak . Prints are matted and backed with archival materials. We made this tray in 2014 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Cobre Copper. It was inspired by an Arts & Crafts tray and artist Anselmo Miranda has made a beautiful rendition. We first saw this bowl in the dining room at the much lovdd Greene and Green Gamble Home Museum in Pasadena, California. We liked it so much we decided to make it in copper and it's been a hit ever since. This bowl is water-tight and perfect for floating your favorite flowers - a cheerful accent for your home. Nearly 30 years ago the manager of the gift shop for the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studo asked us to make this vase, modeled after a 1909 Russian vase that was part of his personal collection. With nothing more than a photo Antonio Ziranda beautifully crafted a sample. It was an immediate hit and one of our best selling vases. I archived this vase for a few years and recently asked Antonio to make a small batch, they arrived and are ready for their new homes!

This hand hammered copper plaque features a "Seed Pod" design, originally created in the Gustav Stickley workshop (1858-1942). Scotsman Robert Jarvie (1865-1941) was an active artist and designer during the early 20th century Arts and Crafts movement. He created this design between 1905-1912 in his Chicago Illinois workshop. Anselmo has beautifully articulated the leaf in repousse' and contrasted the leaf's smooth surface with a heavily textured background.

When I visited Santa Clara del Cobre October 2019 I saw this vase in Antonio Ziranda's workshop. My visit was timed with one of the most important festivals in Mexico, El Dia de los Muertos. Part of the festivities includes a much-anticipated contest where artisans submit their best work to be judged with hopes of winning prizes. You will see the best ceramics, wood carving, weaving, embroidery, masks, and of course, copper! Antonio Ziranda participates every year and I visited his workshop just before he submitted his pieces to be juried. When I saw this vase, I had to have it. Apparently, the judges felt the same way as it received a blue ribbon! Just TWO left!
