Grueby Faience Company was founded in 1894 by William Grueby who was inspired by the matte glazes on French pottery, particularly the cucumber green that became the company's hallmark, and the refined simplicity of Japanese ceramics. In its heyday Grueby was sold through Tiffany Studios in New York City and Gustav Stickley who incorporated their tiles in his furniture. Alas, due to bankruptcy, a fire and eventual sale the company closed for good in 1920. This beauty measures 12" high and has a subtle, abstracted leaf and pod design in repousse.

We first saw this bowl in the dining room at the famous Greene and Green Gamble Home Museum in Pasadena, California in the mid-1990's. We liked it so much we decided to make it in copper and it's been a hit ever since. This bowl is water-tight and perfect for floating your favorite flowers - a cheerful accent for your home. Occasionally we venture into the world of English Arts & Crafts. This design, originally crafted of pewter in late 19th century England, is reminiscent of ancient "sea monster" stories that fascinated Europeans for centuries, especially during the Age of Discovery. After moving to the Southwest in 1918, Gustave Baumann (1881-1971) purchased a Chevrolet car in 1920 that allowed him to explore the Southwest and eventualy the Pacific Coast. Baumann loved the Sequoia National Forest and the redwoods near San Francisco which inspired this print "Singing Trees".

Gustave Baumann (1881-1971) created color woodcut prints of American rural landscapes. Baumann was active in the era before photo-reproduction replaced wood engraving. He was active in the Chicago and Indiana countryside until he took a trip to Taos, N.M. which then became his home. He lived in the Santa Fe area for more than 50 years and carved into wood southwestern landscapes and spring and summer gardens and orchards. His prints are awash in brilliant, hand-ground pigments. Just THREE left!
