The "diamonte" (diamond) motif has been a favorite design for generations of coppersmiths in Santa Clara del Cobre. Historically the diamond has been a symbol of strength and invulnerability. Master Coppersmith Antonio Ziranda has created a diamond pattern on this vase using respousse', a technique dating to ancient Mesopotamia. Antonio begins from inside the vase, using hammers and other handmade tools to "push" the diamond design out.

Scotsman Robert Jarvie (1865-1941) was an active artist and designer during the early 20th century Arts and Crafts movement. He created this design between 1905-1912 in his Chicago Illinois workshop. Gustave Baumann (1881-1971) created color woodcut prints of American rural landscapes. Baumann was active in the era before photo-reproduction replaced wood engraving. He was active in the Chicago and Indiana countryside until he took a trip to Taos, N.M. which then became his home. He lived in the Santa Fe area for more than 50 years and carved into wood southwestern landscapes and spring and summer gardens and orchards. His prints are awash in brilliant, hand-ground pigments.
