Cobre's expanded offering of wall art features beautifully reproduced images of Gustave Baumann woodcuts. Gustave Baumann (1881-1971) created color woodcut prints of American rural landscapes. Baumann was active in the era before photo-reproduction replaced wood engraving. He was active in the Chicago and Indiana countryside until he took a trip to Taos, NM.....which then became home. He lived in Santa Fe area for more than 50 years and carved into wood southwestern landscapes and spring and summer gardens and orchards. His prints are awash in brilliant, hand-ground pigments. Lucia Mathews and her husband, Arthur, thrived in the Bay Area at the turn of the early 20th century and helped develop a unique California style of the Arts and Crafts Movement that swept America at that time. Recreated with permission from the Oakland Museum of California we are thrilled to offer this limited edition digital print. In keeping with the Arts and Crafts Movement, each print is individually hand-colored in water color and gouache. We made this hand hammered copper tray in 2014 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Cobre Copper. It was inspired by an Arts & Crafts tray we saw several years before and the artist did a beautiful rendition.
