This hand hammered copper plaque features the famous "seed pod" design which was originally created by the Gustav Stickley (1858-1942) workshop. Stickley was recognized as an originator of American Craftsman style design. Famous for his quarter-sawn oak furniture, Stickley was also known for his metalwork designs. We made this hand hammered copper tray in 2014 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Cobre Copper. It was inspired by an Arts & Crafts tray we saw several years before and artist Anselmo Miranda did a beautiful rendition. We first saw this bowl in the dining room at the famous Greene and Green Gamble Home Museum in Pasadena, California in the mid-1990's. The creator of this design was an amazing woman of her time, Marie Zimmerman (1879-1972). She was active in a “man’s world” creating metal sculptures and objects with a distinctive organic style. She came from a wealthy family, didn’t need to work and had no desire to marry – she was a true maverick. Antonio Ziranda created a beautiful interpretation of Zimmerman’s original vase. Scotsman Robert Jarvie (1865-1941) was an active artist and designer during the early 20th century Arts and Crafts movement. He created this design between 1905-1912 in his Chicago Illinois workshop.
