Working with copper has been a tradition in Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacan since pre-Hispanic times. A few of the workshops in Santa Clara have modernized but Antonio Ziranda is keeping the old tradition alive, as do all the craftsmen that I work with.Michoacan is an agricultural state filled with pine forests, croplands, and fruit orchards. This indigenous design was inspired by the segments you see in oranges and grapefruits, many of which are grown in the nearby Tierra Caliente (hot land), not far from Antonio's village.
We haven't offered this vase for several years but Antonio Ziranda sent me a small edition and we have just ONE left! The inspiration for this sculptural vase is a Teco Pottery vase I saw at the Frank Lloyd Wright Home & Studio, Oak Park, Illinois many years ago.

Antonio Ziranda made a small edition of this gracefully fluted vase.
When we first introduced this vase years ago, scouts for "Martha Stewart Living" spotted it. Later that year it was featured in the magazine - beautifully styled of course!

Occasionally we venture into the world of English Arts & Crafts. This design, originally crafted of pewter in late 19th century England, is reminiscent of ancient "sea monster" stories that fascinated Europeans for centuries, especially during the Age of Discovery. (See the original pewter plaque in additional image.) Just ONE left!
At 12" wide this plaque can be hung on the wall or displayed on a table or bookshelf. (You may be interested in the Dard Hunter oak easel stand.)

The Paul Revere Pottery studio was active early in 20th century and one of their clay bowls inspired our copper bowl.
Our hammered copper bowl makes a wonderful centerpiece or "catch-all" for things that seem to get lost. I have one in my kitchen and it's always full of something!

I love fall squash, so much so that years ago I brought three favorites from my garden to my coppersmiths in Mexico to use as models. This summer I asked Antonio Ziranda to replicate them for the holidays and he has done a beautiful job - they're sculptural and whimsical - a single squash or a grouping makes a delightful statement!
