This lovely organic design is reminiscent of fern fronds which grow abundantly in the forests surrounding the village of Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacan where my artists and their families have lived for generations. The fern frond is symbolic of resiliance and the ability to adapt to diverse environments, growth and renewal.
This piece beautifully displays Master Copppersmith Antonio Ziranda's skill in repoussé.
This design originated in the Roycroft Metal Shop circa 1920 and described as an "Inverted Bell" Vase.
Antonio Ziranda has beautifully crafted a small edition. Don't delay, we have just 2 small vases and 1 large vase!
Antonio Ziranda practices the traditional coppersmithing method of repeatedly heating the copper over an open bonfire until the final form is achieved. The bonfire flames inspired this design which dates back generations, an indigeneous design.
The creator of this design was an amazing woman of her time, Marie Zimmerman (1879-1972). She was active in a “man’s world” creating metal sculptures and objects with a distinctive organic style. She came from a wealthy family, didn’t need to work and had no desire to marry – she was a true maverick.
Antonio Ziranda created a beautiful interpretation of Zimmerman’s original vase. We have just ONE!
