Gustave Baumann (1881-1971) loved American rural landscapes which inspired him to created color woodcut prints like "Rose Farm", circa 1919. Baumann was active in the era before photo-reproduction replaced wood engraving. He worked in the Chicago and Indiana countryside until he took a trip New Mexico which then became his home. He lived in the Santa Fe area for more than 50 years and carved into wood southwestern landscapes and spring and summer gardens and orchards. His prints are awash in brilliant, hand-ground pigments.
