Marblehead Potteries in Marblehead, MA was founded in 1904 by Dr. Herbert J. Hall and was one of several therapeutic workshops he established in his sanatorium for mentally fatigued patients. They reflected Dr. Hall's belief in the restorative function of handicrafts.
The pottery was soon spun off as a separate, commercial operation. Its wares were debuted with great success in December 1907 at exhibitions in New York City and in Chicago. The rest is history!
