Mission Style Hand-Hammered Copper Home Accents
|
Mission Style Design grew out of the early "mission" settlements in California, founded by Spanish Franciscan priests in the 18th and 19th century. As in the closely-related Arts-and-Crafts style, simplicity, functionality and sturdiness are hallmarks of mission style furniture and accessories. Stickley, Roycroft and others are well-known for their contributions to mission style. The influence of Hispanic elements can be seen in mission style decorating. The warmth, textures and colors had great appeal to the Arts-and-Crafts movement of the 20th century. Hand-hammered copper, with its beautifully textured surfaces and rich colors, makes an excellent complement to mission decor. |
